> Bigger terminals. Fewer surprises on site.

BIMON supports airport operators, contractors and designers with BIM design, BIM management, model validation and construction simulations. We cover the whole life cycle of airport infrastructure: design, construction, maintenance and redevelopment.

Air traffic keeps growing. Forecasts expected almost twice as many passengers in 2025 as in 2015, and 30 percent more cargo. Airports need new terminals, facilities, runways and internal and external communication infrastructure. The BIM method gives operators a way to rationalise these works and meet environmental sustainability targets across the asset's life.

On the new Mexico City Airport we built the multidisciplinary tender model of the Intermodal Territorial Interconnection Center (CITT), about 350,000 m², and ran 4D/5D simulations for Astaldi. At Fiumicino we coordinated the BIM project of the commercial forecourt and now handle survey, digitisation and BIM process management under framework agreements with Aeroporti di Roma. At Malpensa we designed SEA's VIP Lounge in BIM, from feasibility to executive design.

## Works on a live airport

Terminals stay open while they are extended or refitted, so the existing state must be known in detail before anyone designs. At Fiumicino BIMON surveys and digitises large areas of the airport and manages the BIM process for Aeroporti di Roma.

## Buildings from different eras

The Ciampino General Aviation Terminal joins a 1950s reinforced concrete building and a 1990s precast steel one. BIMON modelled the existing state from a laser scanner survey, then managed demolition, design and comparative deliverables in a single model.

## Many disciplines in one building

Passenger halls concentrate architecture, structures and dense electrical and mechanical systems. For the 47,000 m² international terminal in Astana, BIMON used the BIM model to find and resolve multidisciplinary interferences and extract quantities for the estimate.

## Time and cost decided at tender stage

On large airport tenders the bid has to hold up during construction. For Mexico City BIMON verified every quantity in the tender calculation and used time and cost simulations to optimise the solutions proposed in the bid.

## FAQ

**What does BIMON do on airport projects?**

BIMON produces multidisciplinary BIM models, coordinates disciplines, validates models delivered by others and runs 4D/5D simulations. Clients include Aeroporti di Roma (Fiumicino), SEA (Malpensa), AICOM (Ciampino), Studio Altieri (Astana) and Astaldi (Mexico City). On some projects we also handled design, construction supervision and safety coordination, as for the Malpensa VIP Lounge.

**Can you build BIM models of existing terminals?**

Yes. We start from a laser scanner survey and build the BIM model of the existing state, then add the new design on top of it. This is how we worked at Ciampino, and it is the core of our framework activity at Fiumicino.

**How are 4D and 5D simulations used on an airport?**

4D links model elements to the construction schedule, 5D links them to quantities and costs. Together they show how phasing affects time and budget before work starts. On Mexico City Airport they were used at tender stage to optimise the solutions in the bid.

**Which standards do you follow for airport BIM?**

We organise information management on the principles of ISO 19650 and, on Italian contracts, UNI 11337 and the client's information requirements (capitolato informativo). Models are exchanged in IFC when the project calls for openBIM. Each model is checked against the agreed level of detail and information before delivery.
