## Context

Science Gateway is CERN's facility dedicated entirely to science education and outreach. Through immersive exhibits and hands-on activities, it lets people of all ages and backgrounds feel part of CERN's scientific and technological discoveries. Its 7,000 m² cover nature from the infinitely small, elementary particles, to the infinitely large, the structure and evolution of the universe.

The architecture draws on CERN's technical installations and underground tunnels. Five buildings house exhibitions, hands-on laboratories, a large auditorium, a shop and a restaurant, all connected by a bridge raised 6 metres above the ground.

With more than 2,000 m² of solar panels and a 400-tree forest around it, Science Gateway is designed to be carbon-neutral.

## BIMON's scope

Working for Italiana Costruzioni, BIMON designed the building's electrical and special systems and coordinated the whole MEP design.

We supported the client with Project BIM Management consulting, covering project planning, management and monitoring, and with BIM modelling in the design and planning phase. The information model became the shared basis for coordinating disciplines and testing choices before construction.

## Results

### Project BIM Management

Project planning, management and monitoring through a single, shared information flow.

### Electrical and special systems design

Design of the electrical and special systems and coordination of all MEP disciplines.

### BIM modelling in design

BIM models developed during design and planning, used for analysis, simulation and design optimisation.

- Better planning of activities
- Lower risks and costs during construction
- Improved collaboration and coordination
- Analysis and simulation on the model
- Design innovation and optimisation
