# Etlik Health Campus

> For Astaldi, BIMON designed the mechanical systems of the Etlik Health Campus in Ankara and supported the design of the electrical systems and civil works. The BIM model was also used to manage site progress and control construction costs.

## Context

Commissioned by the Turkish Ministry of Health, the Etlik Health Campus is a one billion euro initiative for the design, construction and supply of a high-specialty hospital complex in Ankara. With 3,624 beds plus a 100-bed clinic hotel, and an investment value of 1.1 billion euros, it is considered one of the largest hospitals in the world.

The campus covers a total area of 1,071,000 m², with 600,000 m² of medical area and 120 operating theatres. The emergency department is sized for 3,000 patients a day and the outpatient clinics for 30,000 patients a day, with underground parking for about 8,000 cars.

A hotel, a conference centre and several commercial areas complete the programme, together with the supply of medical equipment and furniture. The goal is to offer Turkey and its neighbouring countries round-the-clock, high-quality healthcare.

## BIMON's scope

BIMON was contracted by Astaldi S.p.A. to design the hospital's mechanical systems in BIM and to provide design support for the electrical systems and civil works. The team developed accurate 3D models enriched with BIM data, the 2D drawings derived from them and renderings of the project.

All discipline models were integrated into one federated model to manage interferences. The technical drawings of the final design, and then of the detailed design for construction, were extracted directly from the model. During construction the same BIM model supported site progress management and construction cost control.

## Results

### Detailed MEP design

BIMON developed the detailed design of the mechanical systems and supported the design of electrical and special systems.

### Clash management

All models were integrated into one federated model to manage interferences before construction.

### Drawings from the model

Final and detailed design drawings were extracted from the BIM model, together with renderings of the 3D and 2D models.

### Site progress and cost control

The BIM model supported site progress management and construction cost control.
