The new Afragola station is spread over an area of about 38.000 sqm. The opera designed by the architect Zaha Hadid will join the Naples Central Station and will function as a node for the exchange of fast trains. BIMON was in charge of project optimization according to the construction activities. In particular, a digital model of the work was made to verify the multidisciplinary interferences of the project and extract the quantities of materials and components to be purchased.
BIMON’s activity was to support the construction site and construction design of the facilities. the BIM model of the whole system was created and all the quantities needed for metric calculation were extracted. The model was used to identify and resolve interferences prior to the construction activity.
The new Naples Afragola station, as of June 11, 2017, welcomes 18 pairs of high-speed trains daily, connecting the new hub with all major cities on the Turin-Salerno backbone, as well as with Venice and Reggio Calabria.
The station thus becomes a strategic hub of the regional and national transportation system, seizing a decisive opportunity to redesign and redevelop the surrounding area.
Zaha Hadid’s design for the new Naples Afragola station responds to the engineering and architectural requirements of FS Italiane, espousing the concept of a station that is no longer simply an area for travelers to pass through, but a civic space where people can meet, surrounded by the harmony of this structure.
BIM Management - construction design
BIMON’s activity was to support site management and the drafting of the plant construction design. The BIM model made it possible to invidivate interferences and verify the metic calculations. This allowed coordination, about two weeks in advance, of physical overlaps between structures and plants.
A simulation was carried out through a constructive BIM model of the entire work: in this way it was possible to avoid possible unforeseen events during construction.
The BIM approach allowed a significant optimization of the project and a better planning of construction activities, allowing to better control time and costs.
