The Maximall Pompeii is one of the largest shopping malls in central Italy and covers an area of about 250.000 sqm including mall, auditorium and hotel. BIMON was commissioned to verify and optimize the project using BIM methodology and to support the general contractor throughout construction.


Project Background

Over 200 thousand square meters for the new tourist-commercial hub, among the largest ever, according to the principles of sustainable architecture and territorial redevelopment. BIM was responsible for carrying out the activities of drafting the plant BIM model, updating the architectural BIM model, verification and validation of the structural BIM model of the Executive Project, multidisciplinary coordination and extrapolation of plant quantities.


The innovative Shopping Resort will rise a short distance from the famous archaeological site of Pompeii, in the beautiful setting of Mount Vesuvius.

A real Hub capable of responding to a plurality of needs by supporting territorial marketing and social promotion. Pompeii Maximall will seize the opportunity to enhance the tourist-cultural attraction as a driving factor for the development of the Vesuvius area. Commissioned by IRGENRE Group, a solid entity that has been operating for about thirty years in the Property Development and Management market for the commercial sector. Careful reading of the area, conducted through urban and morphological analysis, inspired the concept, rooting it strongly in the place where it fits.

The project incorporates the typical characteristics of ancient Roman cities and Pompeii in particular, going to propose, on an area of about 200,000 square meters, a multifunctional complex of 67,440 square meters at the service of the community, which includes a multiplex cinema, a hotel designed on the model of the Domus that enrich the excavations of Pompeii, a large Food Court, an amphitheater for events and a multimedia plaza; all immersed in a large green area usable by the community.The architectural concept tends to re-propose in a modern key the structure that characterizes ancient Pompeii, with the realization in synthesis of two main buildings completely permeable by light, air and visitor routes connected by an ideal new Via dell’Abbondanza, a pedestrian axis that lets the gaze sweep between sea, city and Vesuvius.










Plant BIM Modeling (LOD 350)

A LOD 350 Plant BIM Model was prepared on the basis of the graphical drawings of the Executive Project provided by the Client in DWG format, in order to immediately identify any interference or critical issues in the Project and highlight them to the Client. In addition, models for electrical and mechanical systems were also created.

Update of the architectural BIM model (LOD 350).

BIMON was also responsible for updating the architectural BIM model provided by the Client in RVT format to the LOD 350 level. a verification activity was also conducted to ensure the correspondence between the produced model and the graphic drawings and all the information in the provided Executive Project.

Verification and validation of the structural BIM model (LOD 350).

BIMON took care of the verification and validation of the BIM models provided by the Client in RVT format, in order to protect the latter regarding the quality of the information content and geometries of the models.

Our verification method is based on software and automatisms (scripts) self-produced and customizable according to the different analyses to be performed or the characteristics of the object of analysis, which allow comparing the progress of the BIM Model with respect to what is contained in the Information Management Plan and the UNI 11337 standard.

Interference Detection and Resolution (Clash Detection).

In order to ensure coordination among all disciplines involved, continuous cycles of Clash Detection were implemented so as to identify and resolve any multidisciplinary interferences prior to the construction phase, avoiding critical issues at the construction site resulting in time delays and increased projected costs.

Extraction of plant quantities from the BIM model

The service offered by BIMON consists of carrying out the activities of extracting plant quantities from the developed BIM model, which are useful for the verification of the metric calculations. The purpose is to prepare descriptive drawings (metric calculations and material lists) in order to be able to contract plant works, dividing the contracts into lots and proceeding with the direct supply of part of the materials.
