Quantity verification
Astaldi used the BIM model to verify every quantity in the tender estimate and to study the construction of the work in detail.

Airports · Mexico City · 2017
For Astaldi, BIMON built the multidisciplinary BIM model of the Intermodal Territorial Interconnection Center (CITT) of the new Mexico City Airport at tender stage. 4D/5D simulations of time and cost helped optimize the solutions proposed in the bid.
01 · The project
The new Mexico City Airport was designed by British architect Norman Foster and Mexican architect Fernando Romero, who won the commission to expand the capital's airport. Planned near the existing Benito Juárez airport, it was meant to quadruple traffic and capacity: from 32 million to 120 million passengers a year.
The X-shaped terminal recalls the wings of the eagle on the Mexican flag and was designed to cover 555,000 m², placing it among the largest airports in the world. Smart mobility and energy efficiency drove the design: less material and energy than a traditional cluster of buildings, and the shortest possible walking distances, with no tunnels or internal transport between the different parts of the facility.
The programme scheduled works from 2015 to 2050, with the airport expected to handle more than 50 million passengers a year by 2020, with three of the final six runways in operation. BIMON worked on the Intermodal Territorial Interconnection Center (CITT), a building of about 350,000 m².
02 · Scope
During the tender stage, BIMON prepared the multidisciplinary BIM model of the CITT for Astaldi S.p.A., covering architecture, structures and building services. The team ran clash detection across disciplines and resolved the interferences directly in the model.
On the coordinated model, BIMON studied the construction phases and ran 4D and 5D simulations, linking geometry to schedule and cost. Astaldi used the same model to check every quantity in the tender estimate and to study in detail how the work would be built.
