02 — Build

Reshaping the future of construction.

Time, cost and site safety under control. Site data made simple and communicable to all stakeholders.

A Construction Digital Twin is the digital replica of the site, kept up to date while work progresses. It enables real-time monitoring, analysis and visualization of project progress, so stakeholders make informed decisions and optimize resources.

It integrates data from different sources, such as sensors, IoT devices and laser scanner surveys, and improves time and cost control. It supports communication and coordination among project teams, with better results on site and lower costs.

We have applied it to the historic Villa Serena in Rome, to Hera's WTE trigeneration plant in Trieste and to Maximall Pompeii.

What you get

Schedule kept

4D simulations link the model to the construction programme. On the WTE plant in Trieste they helped optimize construction activities and stay on schedule.

Problems solved before they reach site

Continuous clash detection cycles find conflicts between disciplines before they turn into delays and unplanned costs.

Design and as-built side by side

Laser scan surveys and point clouds are compared with the BIM model. At Villa Serena a discrepancy report shows the differences between design and what was built.

A model ready for operations

The as-built model updated during construction becomes the basis for facility management and for the asset digital twin.

Frequently asked questions

What is a construction digital twin?+

It is a digital model of the site connected to real work data: progress, surveys, sensors, schedule and costs. It shows the actual state of the works, compares it with the design and simulates the next phases. It differs from an operational digital twin, which covers the building once in use.

What are 4D and 5D simulations?+

4D simulation links BIM model elements to the construction schedule and shows the build sequence. 5D adds quantities and costs. BIMON has used them on projects including the new Mexico City Airport, the Naples-Bari high-speed line and the Skurusund bridge in Sweden.

Is a construction digital twin useful for a general contractor?+

Yes, contractors are often the ones asking for it. On Maximall Pompeii BIMON supported the general contractor with LOD 350 MEP models, clash detection and quantity extraction used to tender the MEP works in lots. The model also helps check bills of quantities and plan procurement.

What data do we need to get started?+

Usually the detailed design, in BIM or DWG format, and the construction schedule. If work has already started, a laser scan survey captures the current state. Sensor and IoT data are added when the site provides them.
