Design & Planning Automation · Construction Digital Twin

One data environment. One version of the truth.

We set up and manage the Common Data Environment (CDE) of a project or an organization, so every piece of information has a place, a status and an owner.

The Common Data Environment (CDE) is the digital space where everyone on a project collects, shares and approves models, documents and data. The ISO 19650 series defines its logic: each information container moves through set states, from work in progress to shared, published and archived.

BIMON provides consulting focused on CDE management. We define the folder and container structure, file coding, roles and permissions, metadata and the review and approval workflows. We align the CDE with the Exchange Information Requirements and the BIM Execution Plan, so the written rules are the ones the platform actually enforces.

During the project we can take on day-to-day CDE management: checking deliveries, verifying file coding, supporting users and reporting on container status. The service works together with BIM Management and model validation.

You need it when a project involves many parties and different versions of the same document cause confusion, when the client requires a CDE compliant with ISO 19650 or UNI 11337, or when an organization wants consistent document management across all its projects.

How we work

  1. 1

    Requirements

We start from the information requirements, contracts and the platform chosen by the client.

  2. 2

    Configuration

We set up structure, coding, metadata, permissions and container states.

  3. 3

    Onboarding

We train the teams and publish an operating guide for everyone on the project.

  4. 4

    Operation

We check deliveries and coding and flag anomalies before they spread.

Frequently asked questions

What is a CDE in BIM?+

It is the shared digital environment where a project's information is collected, managed and approved: models, drawings, documents, data. ISO 19650 defines its states (work in progress, shared, published, archived). In Italy UNI 11337 calls it ambiente di condivisione dati, or ACDat.

How is a CDE different from ordinary cloud file storage?+

A CDE manages the status, revisions, approvals and metadata of each information container, with permissions tied to project roles. A file cloud stores documents but does not govern their life cycle. The difference matters when you have to prove which version was valid on a given date.

Do you work with a specific CDE platform?+

No. We configure the CDE on the platform the client has chosen or already uses. The method, meaning states, coding, roles and workflows, stays the same and follows ISO 19650.
