Complex plants. Every system in place.

BIMON develops solutions that optimise the design of industrial facilities, monitor construction and safety progress, and improve operation and maintenance through AI algorithms for predictive maintenance. The complexity of an industrial system makes BIM software necessary to meet every design need.

A multidisciplinary model becomes a detailed digital representation of the plant, a digital twin in which processes and tools communicate with each other. It holds the information needed to manage the whole life cycle, from initial design to the disposal of the materials used in construction.

At CERN Science Gateway in Geneva we designed the electrical and special systems and coordinated MEP for Italiana Costruzioni. For Hera at the Trieste waste-to-energy plant we created and coordinated all digital models and simulated construction phases and methods. We also delivered the architectural and MEP design of Inalca's Sochocin plant in Poland and the BIM models of the ECMWF data centre in Bologna.

The challenges

01

Plant-dense buildings

Industrial buildings carry far more systems than ordinary ones. At Inalca's 46,000 m² slaughtering plant, BIMON developed the executive design of electrical, special and mechanical systems up to construction drawings, and extracted the quantities used for purchasing control on Building B and the Rack.

02

New equipment inside existing plants

Revamping means fitting new machines into buildings that already work. At the Trieste plant BIMON combined BIM with construction simulations to resolve clashes before they reached the site and keep the works on schedule.

03

Existing structures to reuse

The ECMWF data centre sits in the former Manifattura Tabacchi buildings in Bologna. BIMON built the structural and plant BIM model from the laser scan survey and the executive design, then ran clash detection and code checking before construction.

04

Operation and maintenance

For an industrial owner, downtime costs more than design. A digital twin fed by sensor data lets AI algorithms flag anomalies and plan predictive maintenance across the plant's life.

Frequently asked questions

Why use BIM on an industrial plant?+

Industrial facilities combine structures, process equipment and dense MEP systems that must fit in the same space. A coordinated multidisciplinary model shows interferences before construction, produces the drawings and gives reliable quantities for purchasing.

How do construction simulations help in a plant revamping?+

They test the phases and installation methods of each component on the model first. At Hera's Trieste plant this approach optimised construction activities and kept the works on schedule.

Can you model existing industrial buildings?+

Yes. For the ECMWF data centre we started from a laser scan survey of the existing buildings and the executive design. The resulting structural and plant model was then checked with clash detection and code checking.

What does predictive maintenance mean in practice?+

Data from sensors and plant systems is analysed by AI algorithms that detect anomalies and anticipate failures. Maintenance is scheduled before a breakdown, which reduces downtime and unplanned costs.
