Construction Digital Twin
Built work, measured. Model, up to date.
We carry out monitoring activities based on construction site needs: laser scans, site inspections and automatic recognition of elements with AI. The built work is compared with the BIM model and the differences are documented.
During construction the design and the built work drift apart. Monitoring measures that gap regularly and brings it back into the BIM model, so that site management, contractor and client work on real data.
BIMON plans laser scanning campaigns and site inspections at the frequency the site requires. The point cloud returns the current state in 3D and makes it possible to check the position of modeled elements. AI algorithms automate the recognition and classification of scanned elements, shortening the time between survey and report.
At Villa Serena in Rome a laser scanner survey with an error under one centimeter produced an as-built model updated alongside the works, with a discrepancy report between design and construction. On the WTE plant in Trieste monitoring followed the site with up-to-date status models. On Etlik Health Campus the BIM model was used for site progress management and construction cost control; on King Faisal Air Academy the models were used for construction monitoring.
The service is useful on works on existing buildings, on sites with a lot of MEP work that will be hidden, and whenever the as-built model has to become the basis for future facility management.
How we work
- 1
Monitoring plan
With site management we define areas, survey frequency and the milestones at which the model is updated.
- 2
Site survey
We carry out site inspections and laser scans and produce the point cloud of the current state.
- 3
Comparison with the model
We recognize and classify the elements, with AI where useful, and compare them with the design BIM model.
- 4
Discrepancy report
We deliver the report of differences between design and construction and the model updated to the site status.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is a laser scanner survey?+
It depends on the instrument and the survey campaign. At Villa Serena BIMON carried out a precision survey with an error under one centimeter, enough to verify the position of the modeled elements.
What is a discrepancy report?+
It is the document that highlights the differences between the original design and what has been built on site. It helps site management act in time and feeds the as-built model for future operations.
What role does artificial intelligence play in monitoring?+
AI automates the recognition and classification of the elements captured in the scans. This reduces manual work on the point cloud and speeds up the comparison with the BIM model.
