Design & Planning Automation

Measured processes. Decisions on data.

We provide consulting for company-wide and project implementations based on data-driven tools: the data produced by BIM models become indicators and decision tools.

A BIM model holds far more data than ever reaches the drawings. Data Driven Implementation means organizing that data and connecting it to company or project processes: cost control, progress, quality, maintenance. The starting point is not the software but the questions the client needs to answer.

BIMON works on two levels. At company level we analyze existing processes and define which data to collect, with what structure and from which sources, to measure what matters. At project level we set parameters, classifications and extraction rules from the information requirements onward, so models produce comparable data ready for dashboards and analysis.

For MIND Milano Innovation District, the one-million-square-metre district on the Expo 2015 site, BIMON handles masterplan data management and BIM Management of the entire site. A custom Business Intelligence tool was created for Lendlease to validate all project data. With SEA at Malpensa, support for BIM implementation went hand in hand with the company's digital transformation.

You need it when the data exist but stay locked in the models, when every project follows different rules and figures cannot be compared, or when management asks for reliable indicators across the project portfolio.

How we work

  1. 1

    Questions

We agree with the client the decisions to support and the indicators they require.

  2. 2

    Data mapping

We identify sources, formats and gaps: BIM models, management systems, spreadsheets.

  3. 3

    Rules

We set parameters, classifications and extraction procedures to apply on every project.

  4. 4

    Roll-out

We connect the data to dashboards and reports and train the people who will use them daily.

Frequently asked questions

What does data-driven mean in BIM?+

It means using the data in the models, not just the geometry, to make decisions: quantities, costs, progress, non-conformities, performance. For it to work, data must be structured consistently from the start of the project.

Is specific software required?+

No. We use the tools the company already has where possible and build custom extractions or tools where they are missing. The value lies in the data rules, which stay valid even if the software changes.

How does it relate to the information requirements?+

It is where data rules become contractual obligations. If the Exchange Information Requirements define the required parameters, classifications and level of information need (LOIN), every supplier delivers comparable data. Without that step, data have to be cleaned afterwards, at a cost in time and money.
